Soft Opening for Olathe’s Crazy Good Eats Barbecue

The family-owned Steer Crazy BBQ spent three years on the barbecue competition circuit, won many awards, and started a successful catering operation.
Now two of the family members are starting a barbecue restaurant.
Bruce Lemay and his son-in-law Dan Isbell had competed under Steer Crazy BBQ with the help of their wives. Now Bruce’s wife, Maggie Lemay, is teaming up with Dan in the newCrazy Good Eats. They plan a soft opening at 11 a.m. May 1 in Heritage Square, 16695A W. 151st St., at the southeast corner of 151st Street and Mur-Len Road.
The family said they will serve the same competition-level barbecue at the restaurant that Bruce and Dan served on the circuit.
“It is the same process, recipes and labor of love that we served to the judges because every customer here will be a judge,” said Bruce Lemay.
Menu items will include barbecue sandwiches — pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends, smoked turkey, smoked ham or sliced sausage — as well as specialty sandwiches like the Carolina Splendor with hickory smoked pulled pork topped with creamy coleslaw and fried pickles.
The menu also will include entree salads, sides like cheesy corn, loaded potato casserole, mac-and-cheese, sweet potato fries, burnt end barbecue beans, and red potato salad.
Crazy Good Eats also will have appetizers like Mad Meatballs (a bacon wrapped meatball seasoned with its competition rub and glazed with its competition sauce), signature plates, meat sold by the pound, and house-made sausage.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is closed Sunday.
